Meet Mike Lewkowicz

Mike LewkowiczI have been in the business of changing lives for more than 10 years. I think everyone deserves to be healthy and happy. I believe in a positive approach to your health, self and others. I have personally helped numerous people lose weight and keep it off, as well increase sport performance in student athletes and weekend warriors. I’ve also helped my clients develop diet plans that actually work.

This is my gift and it’s what I was called to do. Now, I have Mike Melloh along side of me as we pursue this new journey to help you get healthy and change your life.

I have developed a complete program fueled by passion, results and a genuine interest in helping people. This sets 1 & Only Fitness apart from all the others.  You are an individual and that is how you will be treated with us, as we work to develop your personalized 1 & Only fitness and health plan.

Meet Mike Melloh

A little over a year ago, I made a decision that changed my life. I contacted a personal trainer to help me lose weight and get stronger.  I was tipping the scale at 262 pounds due to a lack of exercise and a poor diet. I had developed an unhealthy relationship with food – my clothes didn’t fit, yet I refused to buy bigger, and exercise had become a distant memory.

As much as I hate to admit it, I found myself in familiar territory.  My weight had yo-yo ‘d over the years – up 30, down 30, and each time I fell off the wagon, I ended up bigger than the time before. I had grown frustrated with myself and was on the verge of hopelessness – believing that I was just going to spend the rest of my life as a “big guy.”

While I had tried many diets and exercise routines, I had never worked out with a personal trainer. I decided to google personal trainers in Fishers.  I called one of the first names on the list and left a message.  Later that day, I talked to him, and he agreed to meet with me the next day.  The experience was not what I envisioned, and while I don’t recall every single question he asked me, nor everything we talked about, one thing stands out above all others – he asked me, “what makes you happy”?  My response went something like this: “well, no one has asked me that in a long time.”  It was not what I was expecting from the personal trainer stereotype I had built up in my mind.  I remember thinking, “I bet this guy is different.”  I guess you could chalk it up to 23 years as an HR guy.  His question led me to conclude that, for me anyway, there may very well be a correlation between personal happiness and physical health – indeed physical health, emotional health, and psychological health.  I was intrigued.

The first couple of weeks with my personal trainer had me logging my meals and doing some pretty strenuous workouts.  And during those early weeks, we got to know each other. He learned that I wanted to be healthier not only for myself, but because I wanted to grow old with my wife, and meet my children’s children. I learned he genuinely cared whether I got healthy.  He invited me to contact him whenever I had a question or needed support.  He would send me links to educational articles on diet, exercise and the complexity of the human body; he would send encouraging text messages and emails.

As the weeks unfolded, he would issue a challenge – each designed to get me to choose healthier.  Give up diet soda (I was drinking about 12-14 per day), refrain from eating grains, do one more set, eat more greens, turn up the resistance on the elliptical, eat healthy snacks in between meals, swim for 30 minutes.  The challenges always came by the 1’s – he did not give me a list.  He issued one and only one challenge.  Once I had successfully conquered that challenge, he would issue another challenge. I realized that I had completely changed my relationship with food and workouts.  I had not only adopted new habits, I had adopted a new life style, and I felt great.

Three months into my workouts, I had my annual company physical.  It’s an exhaustive set of tests – some clinical and some physical.  Skipping to the headline, my doctor told me that the physical difference between my test results that June as compared to the year before meant I had reduced my chances of dying by all causes of mortality by 65%!  He offered no suggestions other than to continue doing what I was doing, commenting that I had met what he believed was, indeed a different kind of trainer.  I couldn’t wait to share the results with my family, who had provided immeasurable support and encouragement.  And I couldn’t wait to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my trainer, who by then was not only my trainer, but more importantly my good friend.

In 7 months, I hit my weight loss goal – 70 pounds, and I’ve kept it off.  The best part is I’m not remotely concerned about falling off the wagon ever again.  I’m a different person living my life in a different way.

In March of 2013, I got lucky.  I stumbled upon the right personal trainer, and he helped me change my life.  But YOU don’t have to rely on luck.  You already found us. Sure, other gyms make the same claim, but in our case it happens to be true.  We shouldn’t even call ourselves a gym.  We should call ourselves the center for health transformation.  Our focus is on you and your personal health goals.  For us, it begins and ends there. What good does it do to have a facility stocked with the latest in cardio and weight machines if they don’t ultimately serve as tools to help you get healthier?  Be assured, we will have the best “tools” in all of Fishers, and through our personal engagement in your health journey, these tools are put to use with a single purpose – to help you get results.


How are we different than other gyms?  It starts with getting to know each of our members on a personal level – no two people are the same. Each is a 1 & Only, and as such, your health goals are personal to you, which makes them personal to us.

  1. We teach technique and fundamentals – ensuring you are doing the workouts the right way to maximize results. Our coaches know that each person needs a workout tailored to his or her goals, body type, and capabilities.  It’s through paying close attention to how each person responds to various challenges that we are able to create a personalized plan.
  2. We design a personalized meal plan that includes vitamins and dietary supplements, that, when combined with tailored workouts, will help you lose weight, increase your metabolism, and turn fat into muscle.  All of our meal plans are designed by Mike Lewkowicz, who has been helping people lose weight for over 10 years.   In fact, he coached his business partner and co-founder of 1 & Only Fitness, to lose 70 pounds in only 8 months!

We provide motivation and support.  Let’s face it, getting healthy isn’t necessarily easy in the times we live in.  We are a 24/7 society with not enough hours in the day, and bad food choices are abundant.  Our coaches know this environment well and will provide you with the motivation and encouragement to make the kind of choices that lead to better health, and we will celebrate in all your victories.
  4. We hold you accountable.  While we have you as a captive audience when you are in our facility, your time with us is but a fraction of your day and week. What you do when not with us will determine whether you get results.  We will hold you accountable for doing cardio, and stretching, and sticking to your meal plan.  Over time, you will hold yourself accountable.
  5. We educate and teach. There is a lot of information out there – some of it helpful and accurate, and some of it not. We provide you with the benefit of our research and push educational materials through text messages, email, blogs and social media. We seek to educate you about food, and exercise, and the complexities of the human body so that you are better equipped to make smart and healthy choices.
